Award-Winning Hudson Brownfields Program

The Hudson County Brownfields Stakeholders group was awarded the NJ DEP’s first Environmental Excellence Award for Open and Effective Government. This award was in recognition of the excellent communication established between the municipalities and the various government agencies that are involved with our brownfield remediation projects.

What We Do

Site Identification
Locating appropriate properties that are likely to have market value.

Legal Issues
There are legal issues sometimes surrounding brownfields. The stakeholders group helps to define and clarify these issues.

Environmental Assessment
Environmental Assessments are done to determine if there is any contamination, and if there is, what its extent is.

Remediation
The experts available to the Program include professionals from federal and state environmental agencies, in addition to engineers who meet with the Stakeholders regularly.

Community Involvement
Regular community meetings are held to encourage public input in the environmental investigation, cleanup and re-use planning. The Pilot also provides information to brownfield property owners.
